Privacy Model

Midnight Network gives Precizion a privacy layer that traditional blockchains don't offer. Here's what that means in practice.

The Short Version

Your predictions and bets are private. The market's aggregate state is public. Zero-knowledge proofs let the blockchain verify your actions without seeing your data.

What Is Public

Market parameters
End time, min/max bet, and target metric are public
Total pool size
Aggregate amount staked by all participants
Bet count
Number of participants in the market
Resolution outcome
The final value that the market resolves to
Reward distribution root
The Merkle root for reward claims
Market status
Whether the market is active, closed, resolved, etc.

What Is Private

Your predicted value
Your numeric prediction is hidden from other participants
Your bet amount
How much NIGHT you staked is not publicly visible
Your identity
Your wallet address is shielded — no one knows which predictions belong to whom
Reward amounts
Individual reward claims are verified via ZK proofs, not revealed

What Can Be Inferred

Even with privacy, some metadata is observable from the public blockchain. An observer can infer:

Market activity timing
Block timestamps reveal when bets were placed (not when in the betting period)
Aggregate behavior
Pool growth rate and bet count reveal market interest over time
Resolution timing
When the market was resolved is public, but the resolution process is private

How ZK Proofs Work Here

Bet Placement

When you place a bet, the Midnight wallet generates a zero-knowledge proof that you have sufficient funds and are submitting a valid prediction. The blockchain verifies this proof without learning your predicted value, bet amount, or wallet address.

Reward Claims

When you claim rewards, you present a Merkle proof that demonstrates you are a valid recipient in the distribution. The ZK proof verifies your eligibility without revealing which participant you were or how much you're receiving.

The Privacy Boundary

Precizion operates across a privacy boundary. Actions within the shielded pool (betting, claiming) are private. Actions that touch the public ledger (market creation, resolution) are visible. The bridge between these two worlds is the zero-knowledge proof.
